At
the end of the civil war, Manuel Vila Lopez settled in Torrelavega
and set up in business, repairing electrical equipment and
radios. The business grew with the distribution of industrial
electrical material.

|
1950-59
|
The
firm became a contractor to the large chemical plants of
the area as his two sons were incorporated, assembling
electrical instalations and control panels. The manufacture
of shielded heating elements began. The first heaters appeared
as a response to the demand from local customers. |

1960-69

Expansion
and maximum growth of the business of industrial electrical
installations. The manufacture of heating elements and heaters,
under the responsability of the founder’s son, Manuel
Vila Sanchez, grew considerably and a division was created to
carry out electrolytic coating. |
|
1970-79
|
The
industrial crisis in the region led to the abandonment of the
installation activity in the middle of the decade. The workers
involved were absorbed on one hand by growth in the electrolytic
division and on the other by the manufacture of heaters. Termoelectrica
Vila then turned to the supply of electrical heating equipment
to the Spanish naval industry, at that time the world’s
fourth largest shipbuilding nation.
In 1976, the various branches of activities were separated and
two public limited companies were constituted: Termoelectrica
Vila and Vila Electroquimica. |

1980-89
|
Naval
reconversion and technological change coincided, leading to
the use of diesel (instead of fuel-oil) as marine fuel, and
so pre-heating was no longer required. The reduction of the
market was unstoppable, but despite this the firm continued
to show a profit and built the offices and manufacturing facilities
at Viernoles, where the company is still located to this day. |
|
1990-99
|
TThe
economic crisis in the first half of the decade made diversification
difficult. The exportation of heating elements commenced
and different product homologations and certifications
were obtained.
In 1998, the company was certified to ISO-9000/94 for the conformity
of its quality system. |
|
2000-09
|
The
firm’s horizons have broadened to embrace the opportunities
presented by the global market. The baton has been passed
on to a new generation within the company at all levels
and a new phase of growth is well underway. We look forward
to the technological challenges which present themselves
in the coming years in the course of fulfilling the commitment
which has formed the cornerstone of our sustained growth:
that of satisfying the needs of the customer. |
